Compilata da Duncan Brooker, questa nuova selezione di brani è alla sua prima pubblicazione internazionale. La compilation torna all’epoca d’oro della musica nigeriana, quando stili popolari come highlife e juju iniziano a subire influenze di western jazz, soul e funk. Brooker si concentra in particolar modo su alcuni incredibili musicisti ukwuani della regione del Delta, come il chitarrista Rogana Ottah e Steady Arobby (International Brothers Band), che hanno dato vita al loro fluido e innovativo stile highlife, o il soulman Don Bruce, che trae ispirazione dai grandi dell’R&B americano. Nel corso dei brani, l’album esplora la stretta connessione tra la musica della Nigeria e quella del Benin, di cui Sir Victor Uwaifo è uno dei massimi esponenti, qui presente con la straordinaria jam ekassa di metà anni ’80, ma anche attraverso il brano di Osayamore Joseph, ‘Obonogbozu’. “Nigeria 70: No Wahala” contiene brani restaurati dai nastri originali e masterizzati da The Carvery.
